FAQ's

How does the Macrowave work?

The Macrowave is sort of like a slow cooker (or Crock Pot) with a brain. Our SmartShelf Technology automatically customizes a plan to heat your food gradually, to a safe and perfect eating temperature without any loss of moisture and then it holds your meal at the perfect serving temperature until you are ready to eat.

Isn’t this just a new kind of microwave?

Not at all! It’s really something totally new and different! The Macrowave uses conduction heat, not radiation, and it will never blow up your food, leave parts of your food frozen or burn the edges and dry it out!  There are no buttons to push or timers to set.  The Macrowave automatically heats your food to perfection. Every time.

How hot does it get?

The Macrowave uses lower temperatures to heat your food. How low you ask? Well, the best way to say it is that the hottest your Macrowave shelf will ever get is about 200 degrees. (Conventional ovens are often set at 350-400 degrees). As the food temperature goes up, the temperature of the SmartShelf comes down until the shelf and the food normalize at a safe and perfect serving temperature above 165 degrees.  Meals are then held at a safe and constant temperature until removed.

Indefinitely? How long will the Macrowave really hold food hot after it’s cooked?

Once the heating cycle is complete, meals will be held at a constant, safe temperature until removed.  Because our gentle heating cycle preserves moisture, once at a safe temperature (above 165 degrees) meals can be held for a very long time.  Although we recommend eating meals within 6-8 hours after the heating cycle is complete, we do have reports of great tasting meals that have remained in the cabinet for days! (But, we don’t recommend it).

Is it energy efficient? How much will it cost to use?

Based on a national average of $0.07 per kwh (higher in the Northeast and California, lower in the Midwest) the Macrowave 4-shelf unit costs about $.0025 per shelf to heat a meal, and once heated the cost is reduced to $.0012 per shelf per hour to hold the meal.  Once the Macrowave goes into power save mode it costs about $.02 per day.

How long will it take to heat my meal?

Most frozen meals take about 1 hour to 90 minutes to heat in the Macrowave. Remember, our SmartShelf Technology customizes the heating temperature and heat time for each individual meal based on its current temperature and mass. It is a lot of scientific calculations and microprocessors that take care of figuring this out for us so we can just put our food on the shelf, go about our day, and then come back to a perfectly heated meal when we’re ready to eat!

Can I cook anything other than prepackaged meals and individually wrapped convenience foods in the Macrowave?

Absolutely! You can heat refrigerated leftovers, fresh meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit, and any other recipes you can dream up!  Remember, however, our SmartShelves are designed to heat individual size portions that are in a sealed, rigid container, and are frozen or refrigerated. Naturally, you should always use a thermometer to make sure protein foods are at or above 165 degrees.

Are the shelves adjustable?

The shelves inside the 4 Shelf and the 8 Shelf Macrowaves are set at 3 inch spacing. This is plenty of room for most leftover containers, prepackaged meals and individually wrapped convenience foods.

What types of containers can be used in the Macrowave?

The short answer…ANY TYPE! Metal, plastic, cardboard, glass. You name it and it is safe in the Macrowave. It won’t spark, melt or cause a fire! The safe low temperatures allow the Macrowave to heat  food in ANY rigid container available to you. For best results use a container that has a flat, or nearly flat, bottom. This will allow for sufficient contact with the Macrowave’s shelf. Plates that have a single “ridge” on the bottom are not recommended.

What about the smell of food cooking?

Not with the Macrowave! Anytime you cook food in a way that boils away moisture, you’re going to have strong food odors. With the Macrowave, our low temperature heating process heats food in a way that it retains all of the moisture goodness in your meal.

What kind of warranty does the Macrowave have?

All Macrowaves come with a 60-Day Money Back Guaranty as well as a full 1-Year Warranty.
